A client expresses that they believe Drupal is 'limiting SEO' for their 'minimalist' site.
My reply:
I am not sure why you are imagining that Drupal is limiting your SEO. I suspect Drupal is one of the best platforms for SEO, whether a site is basic or beyond. It just needs to be configured appropriately and then standard SEO practices applied on top of that layer.
The limitations of your site in Google are in no way a consequence of you choosing Drupal.
Google result Monday 9 November 2009 - clipAround lunch time Monday I documented the following client enquiry. I wanted the client to understand that if we wish Google to display particular text then we really have to include that text in our page; that's the simple bit; and then we need to 'engineer' the site and the page so that the particular text is displayed by Google. I gave this blog entry the title "What text do you want to come up in Google". I captured the image from the first page of google.com.au listings for a key word search on "drupal seo" mid-afternoon of the same day. The text "What text do you want to come up in Google?" is displayed prominently by google. Within 2 hours of my posting that title. Well, is that a good result? The result of course is built on SEO work I've gradually done on this site over a long period of time. The basic infrastructure has been proven, I think. And still there is more to learn and more to do.
Currently even when it is in the listings, only the site menu items are printed out. Google does not display any real text to describe the site.
It is immediately apparent to me that the design of your home page gives Google little choice but to feature your Drupal menu.
My work is mainly customisation and repairs to existing Drupal sites.
I maintain a number of sites on an ongoing basis.
I build new sites.
You have a vision. You wish to build a Drupal site that will look like {enter your desired look-and-feel} and be able to {enter your desired functionality}.
Or you have a Drupal site already. You wish to alter the look-and-feel, &/or you wish to extend the site to do x, y &/or z.
I can help you turn that vision into reality.
This site has been top of the google list (Australian version) for the keyword 'drupal' for a long time.
I'm now interested in how I can optimise the site so that it comes up higher for the keyword pair 'drupal seo'.
With a bit of twiddling over the last few days I got it up to number 7 on the front page of google.com.au.
An estimate is just that - an intelligent guess based on a problem description provided by you and some investigation provided by me. The more accurate your problem description the more 'on target' will be my investigation and thus the more easy it will be to make the estimation.
Packt publishing have just released a new book on Drupal 6, titled 'Drupal 6 Social Networking'. They sent me the following article:
Drupal 6 Social Networking: Communicating with Users
Our users can communicate with one another, which is great, but quite often as an administrator the need may arise for us to communicate with a user or users on our site. It may be to remind them about the web site or to inform active users about new changes to the site, which they may not have been made aware of.
I'm interested in how other developers and project managers setup payment or contracts under agile development. I found an interesting collection of possibilities, which I am in the process of evaluating.
Also, this article describing the process and payments per 'sprint' from one agile development firm.
